Haryana raises annuity of Param Vir Chakra winners


In a windfall for Haryanviz serving in the Indian defence forces, Haryana government has announced a financial assistance of Rs 2 crores to a Param Vir Chakra recipient  or his family and  Rs 1 crore to a Maha Vir Chakra recipient. Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra were earlier being given Rs 31 lakh and Rs 21 lakh, respectively.



Similarly, a steep hike has also been announced in grant of monetary benefits to the recipients of all other service medals. The awards have two components - a onetime payment and the the annuity, a recurring sum given to all recipients every year. The onetime enhanced payment will be given to all soldiers receiving the awards in future while the increase in annuity will be across the board for everyone.

The financial benefit given by Haryana becomes the highest to be paid by a state government in the country. 
Punjab pays a fixed amount of Rs 30 lakh to PVC and Ashok Chakra recipients, Rs 20 lakh to MVC and Kirti Chakras winners and Rs 15 lakh for Vir Chakra and Shaurya Chakras recipients. Sena medal award amount for gallantry is Rs 7 lakh. These financial awards are applicable to those decorated after 2002. In Punjab the recipients prior to 2002 only get an annuity ranging from Rs 23,100 for a PVC to Rs 6,440 for a Shaurya Chakra.

The government will also give enhanced financial assistance to the World War-II veterans, their widows and ex-servicemen and their widows. The recipients of Yudh Sewa medal, Vishisht Sewa medal, Sarvottam Yudh Sewa medal and other medals too will be given higher financial rewards
